(ANKARA) - Fuel price hikes are not slowing down. An increase of 7 lira and 80 kurus for diesel and 2 lira for gasoline, effective from midnight tonight, was brought to the agenda. 50 percent of these amounts would be covered by Special Consumption Tax, and the rest would be reflected in pump sales prices. Since July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, is a public holiday and the markets are closed, there will be no price increase at midnight tonight, but on Friday, there will be an increase of 3 lira 90 kurus for diesel and 1 lira for gasoline.
The renewed war between the USA and Iran, tension in the Strait of Hormuz and Russia's diesel export ban have brought the fuel price hike to the agenda.
Brent oil, which dropped to 72 dollars with the ceasefire decision between the USA and Iran, is traded at 85 dollars. In global markets, the metric ton price of diesel continues to rise. The price of diesel per ton has increased by 160 dollars in the last few days.
In their statement to ANKA, industry sources stated that an increase of 7 lira 80 kurus for diesel and 2 lira for gasoline was calculated as of midnight tonight, and said, "In accordance with the Eşel Mobil decision published at the beginning of this month, 50 percent of these amounts would be covered by Special Consumption Tax, and the rest would be reflected in pump sales prices."
However, sources noted that July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, is a public holiday and said, "The markets are closed. There will be no increase at midnight tonight. There will be no change in the sales price."
Sources emphasized that the increase is expected to be reflected in pump sales prices on Friday and said, "There will be a 3 lira 90 kurus increase for diesel and 1 lira increase for gasoline on Friday."
Gasoline prices were increased by 1 lira and 55 kuruş, effective from today.
