A damage assessment activity was carried out in the 70-decare area damaged by the fire in Karakoçan district of Elazığ.
According to the information obtained, the cover fire that broke out yesterday for an undetermined reason in Sarıcan town of Karakoçan district, grew in a short time under the influence of the wind and spread to the surrounding cultivated agricultural lands. A total of 300 decares of land was affected by the fire, of which 40 decares were wheat and 30 decares were barley cultivated area.
Following the fire, Elazığ Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry and Karakoçan District Director of Agriculture and Forestry, together with technical personnel, carried out on-site inspection and damage assessment activities in the region. Authorities also visited the producers affected by the fire, wished them well and gave information about the activities carried out.
In the statement, it was emphasized that stubble should not be burned, combine harvesters and other agricultural machines should be fully maintained and inspected, a flame extinguisher and a water tanker should be kept ready during the harvest, fires should not be lit on fields and roadsides, cigarette butts should not be thrown into the environment, and any negligence that may cause a fire should be avoided.
Authorities stated that the risk of flames exists not only in areas close to forest areas, but in all harvest areas, and that producers should pay utmost attention. If any signs of smoke or flames are seen, it is requested to notify the 112 Emergency Call Center without delay. - ELAZIG
