Following the "absolute nullity" decision of the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice dated May 21, no consensus could be reached in the leadership crisis in the CHP. The separation between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed as the chairman by court decision, and Özgür Özel has moved to a new stage.
It was learned that after Özgür Özel's calls for an extraordinary congress were not met, Özel and his team decided to continue their political activities under the roof of a newly established party.
According to the news of Sözcü's Bala Ateş Irmak, Özgür Özel and his staff are expected to introduce the new party to the public within the week, after the judicial holiday that will start on Monday. According to the information spoken behind the scenes, it is stated that the name of the party will be "New Party" if there is no legal obstacle.
It is stated that the MPs who support Özel are also planning to join the new party en masse.
If at least 80 MPs from the CHP join the new party, it is expected that the party will become the main opposition party in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on the day it is established.
If this scenario occurs, the title of "main opposition party", which the Republican People's Party has held for about 24 years, will be transferred to the new party founded by Özgür Özel.
It is planned that the details of the new formation will be shared with the public during the next week, and then the establishment process of the party will be completed with the official application to be made to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
