It was announced that the total toll of the 8-day bull runs at the San Fermin festival in Spain, which is famous for people running on the streets with bulls, was more than 70 injured people.
As part of the festival, the 8th and last race of the bulls, who will face the matador in the arena in the evening, on the 875-meter route from the barn to the arena in the city center, took place today.
It was reported that more than 70 people were injured this year, 67 of whom were hospitalized, in the event called "Encierro", which is held with 6 bulls and 6 oxen in accordance with the rules and is run by people over the age of 18.
According to the information given so far by the festival officials in the Municipality of Pamplona, 8 of the injuries during the "Encierro" were caused by the bull's horn, while the others were the result of trauma due to falls.
During the San Fermin festival, a tradition dating back to the 14th century in Spain, 16 people have died from the horn blows they received from the bull since 1910, the last of which was in 2009.
Pamplona Municipality, which has increased its measures in recent years due to security problems at the festival, increased the fines up to 60 thousand euros this year.
Pamplona, whose population is normally 200 thousand, increased to over 1 million 800 thousand during the festival, will bid farewell to San Fermin with an event that will be held under candle lights in the city center at midnight and where the folk song "Pobre de mi" will be sung in unison.
