TOKYO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- A bear entered the house of an elderly person in Japan's northeastern Iwate prefecture and rummaged through the refrigerator to find food.
According to Kyodo News on Tuesday, an 87-year-old man living in the province's Shizukuishi town encountered the bear when he went to the kitchen after hearing sounds coming from the house on Monday night. The man's wife reported the situation to emergency teams.
Police believe the bear entered the house through the back door, rummaged through the refrigerator looking for food, and then exited through the same door. Food was seen scattered around the kitchen floor.
With the latest incident, a new one has been added to the bear cases seen in the region in recent days. According to the police, a bear entered the house of a 70-year-old man living in the same town four times last week and ran away with cat food and pickles. There were no injuries in the incidents.
Due to the heat wave that has continued to affect Japan in recent weeks, reports of bear sightings have been coming from many parts of the country.
In the northern Hokkaido state of the country, hiking trails on Mount Rausu were urgently closed after a brown bear was seen last Thursday. The incident happened just days after the climbing season started on July 5.
