Among those detained in the "Football betting and match-fixing" investigation, conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes Investigation Bureau against former club executives, is former Adana Demirspor President Ali Sancak. Ali Sancak's father, Murat Sancak, had also been arrested earlier for the same crime.
In the investigation announced by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, a detention order was issued for 19 people, including former executives of giant sports clubs such as Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Adana Demirspor. In operations centered in Istanbul this morning, 17 people were taken into custody. It was learned that 2 individuals are abroad.
Former Adana Demirspor President Ali Sancak is also among the names detained in the operation. It was assessed that Ali Sancak, during his tenure as an executive, placed 7 betting slips on his own club's matches, either in favor of the opposing team or on goal bets.
Ali Sancak's father, former Adana Demirspor President Murat Sancak, had also been detained in the "Football betting and match-fixing" investigation and arrested for this crime on December 9, 2025.
Murat Sancak had been released in January 2026 under judicial control, in the form of house arrest.
