Bessent announced that a new $1 gold coin with the portrait of President Donald Trump will begin to be minted in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the country's independence.
Stating that the gold coin was designed to honor the legacy of freedom and be a lasting symbol of patriotism, Bessent stated that this coin featuring Trump celebrates the strength of American values and the promise of a nation dedicated to protecting freedom for everyone.
In the visual shared by Bessent with the public, the design details of the new coin to be minted were also included. On the front of the gold coin, there is Trump's portrait, along with the dates '1776 - 2026', symbolizing the beginning and 250th anniversary of independence, and the phrases 'Liberty' and 'In God We Trust'. On the back of the coin, there is a traditional American eagle motif, the number '250' and the text 'One Dollar'.
