The legal and political aspects of the process were discussed at the July 15 Symposium on its Tenth Year in Political and Legal Aspects, organized by the AK Party Political and Legal Affairs Directorate at the party headquarters.

After the opening at the AK Party Headquarters Congress Hall, the symposium was moderated by AK Party Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı, and İsmail Kahraman, who served as the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on the night of July 15, former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, then Minister of Internal Affairs Efkan Ala and the then AK Party Headquarters Organization President Mustafa Ataş took part as speakers.

In his speech here, AK Party Deputy Chairman Yazıcı emphasized that some events shape not only the period in which they occurred, but also the minds of future generations, and that July 15 was such an event.

Yazıcı stated that the state structure does not consist only of organizations and buildings, and that the source of legitimacy of the state is, above all, the will of the nation, and said:

"The July 15 attempt targeted exactly this understanding of legitimacy. Because coups do not only attempt to overthrow governments. Especially the July 15 coup, which was attempted by FETO, was to destroy all the values that created the nation, all the institutions that shape the nation, especially the security, judiciary and military, and to hand over Türkiye, this homeland and the rule of the people living in this country to the groups that it subcontracted, that was the goal. It is so vile and cruel. That night also destroyed the constitutional order." They aimed to eliminate it.”

Yazıcı stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan showed his leadership by embracing his nation at the first opportunity on the night of the coup, and that he managed to motivate the nation's strong resistance against the coup plotters in the streets, and added:

"July 15 has shown us an important truth. Democracies are not protected only by elections. They are protected by institutions, strong structures, by faith. They are protected by protecting their sovereignty, rights and freedoms. And most importantly, they are protected by the nation's belief in democracy. For this reason, it is our responsibility to build the future as well as to commemorate the past. Because history exists not only to be remembered, but to be read correctly."

"July 15 is an invasion movement against Türkiye"

Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, İsmail Kahraman, stated that July 15 was not a coup attempt or revolution and said, "July 15 is an invasion of Türkiye. Turkey was being invaded. I call it 'July 15 Invasion Attempt'. If I opened the Parliament under fire and under tanks with my own will and decision, when there was no threat to me, no institution, party or person, what brought us to the squares that day, I wanted to prevent Türkiye from being invaded and become a martyr if necessary." I tried to be." he said.

"The main owner of preventing July 15 is directly and solely Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. I say this with conviction, because he stood tall." Kahraman said that President Erdoğan demonstrated his will to "lead my nation" that night, and the nation filled the squares regardless of party.

"The goal is to destroy the Republic of Türkiye through a coup attempt."

Former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım also said that 10 years have passed since the coup attempt, but the pain is still very fresh.

"In fact, the target that night was not just the elected President. It is not the legitimate government, nor its Prime Minister. The target that night was to eliminate the will of the nation and destroy the state of the Republic of Turkey with a coup attempt." Yıldırım said:

"That night, those devils, those terrorist elements disguised as soldiers, inside the soldiers' uniforms, stole planes, stole tanks, bombs and weapons and said, 'everything is in our hands now, no one can resist us, no one can stand in our way.' But there was something they couldn't calculate. There is a Turkish nation that they cannot calculate, holding the star and crescent flag and filling the squares. It is the nation itself that stopped this vile attempt. They are your and our martyrs. Women and men from seven to seventy are the noble children of this nation. I'm proud of you all."

Talking about his meeting with President Erdoğan that night, Yıldırım said, "There is death, there is no return, we will not hand over the nation's trust to scoundrels, even if it means death." He stated that they made the covenant and never broke it.

"I established contacts with the Prime Minister and Bahçeli declared that he stood against these traitors."

Efkan Ala, then Minister of Internal Affairs, also said about FETO: "The ultimate goal of those who used this puppet and what this puppet wanted to do was to turn Türkiye into Syria." he said.

Pointing to the 17-25 December judicial coup attempt, Ala said that even the date "17 December" was not chosen by chance. Ala reminded that on December 17, 2010, Mohammed Bouazizi set himself on fire in Tunisia and the process called "Arab Spring" began.

Ala said that Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Celal Adan, called him that night and told him that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli wanted to meet with President Erdoğan. Ala said, "I established contacts with the Prime Minister and Mr. Devlet Bahçeli declared that he stood against these scoundrels, these traitors. That is also important. He supported me. I thank him." he said.

"One minute" was the turning point when all plans started to be made against us.

Stating that they realized that night that President Erdoğan has an unshakable leadership, Ala said that with the stance of the whole nation, Türkiye was taken from the edge of a cliff, and the country was saved from disintegration and civil war.

Ala stated that in their subsequent investigations and investigations, they saw that FETO started planning and accumulating everything after President Erdoğan's "one minute" speech.

"One minute was the turning point when all plans started to be made against us," said Ala, explaining the situations that took place in Türkiye after that date.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Ala continued as follows:

"If there is a possibility to prevent a coup, an intervention, or a policy, there is a possibility. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to make regulations that will eliminate this possibility. Türkiye definitely needs a constitution that is founding, proper, civil, guarantees rights and freedoms, builds a functioning state structure, and ensures the peace of the society. Constitutions are constitutions with their spirit. It reveals the framework of the state, reveals its functioning. It states the guarantees of the will of the nation's dominance over the administration. There is a lot of work to be done for that. There are many problems. "We have overcome many problems. We have achieved these. But managing success is more difficult than managing problems. In this respect, we need more activities. We have put Türkiye's institutions in place, but we need to put the guarantee of this in the constitution."

Ala said, "Institutions have also become stronger, politics has also become stronger, now it is time to make a constitution that guarantees these." he said.

Ataş, the AK Party Organization Chairman at the time, said that as a result of the instructions he gave to the AK Party organizations after his meeting with the then Prime Minister Yıldırım on the night of July 15, the members of the organization were among the first to take to the streets and talked about their resistance against the coup plotters.

Within the scope of the symposium, the "Triumph of the National Will Photography Exhibition", depicting the events of the night of July 15, was also opened to visitors.
