It was reported that Ma Shingrui, a former member of the Political Bureau, the highest governing body of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which governs the country in China, and former Communist Party Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, was expelled from the party and suspended from public office as a result of the corruption investigation carried out against him.
According to the China Daily newspaper, the corruption investigation carried out against Ma by the CCP's Central Disciplinary Inspection Commission and the National Supervisory Commission has been concluded.
The investigation found that Ma committed serious violations of political rules and party discipline and failed to fulfill his fundamental responsibility to ensure the implementation of self-regulation within the party.
It was determined in the investigation that Ma violated the rules regarding personnel management and internal discipline and made false statements during official interrogation, and that he granted privileges to some people by using his authority in the promotion and recruitment processes.
The investigation also found that Ma accepted gifts and cash, helped family members acquire real estate below market value, engaged in "sexual intercourse for power" and "money for power" relationships, and paved the way for a corruption network that included family members by turning a blind eye to his relatives using their official influence for profit.
While it was reported that Ma was expelled from the party and suspended from public office in line with the findings of the investigation, it was stated that his assets, which were considered illegal, were confiscated and the files regarding some of his assets were referred to the prosecutor's office for detailed examination.
He was a name from the aerospace industry
Ma, who started his career as a faculty member in the field of mechanical engineering, served as dean of the Faculty of Mechanics at Harbin Institute of Technology in 1992, vice dean of the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics and vice rector of the institute.
Ma, who was appointed as a director at the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) in 1996, worked on the "Shijien 5" satellite project during this period. Ma later became the director of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), where he headed the Moon exploration missions, which he called China's Chang.
Ma served as Director of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), Director of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), Director of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (SASTIND), and Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology.
In his political career, he served as the Communist Party Secretary of Xinjiang City in 2015-2016, the Governor of Guangdong Province in 2016-2021, and the Communist Party Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in 2021-2025.
It was noteworthy that Ma, who was dismissed in July 2025, did not take part in party meetings and public events after this date.
