Çorum Governor Ali Çalgan met at dinner with the relatives of the martyrs who lost their lives while resisting the July 15 coup attempt of the terrorist organization FETO, as well as with the veterans and their relatives.
As part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day activities, the Holy Quran was read for the souls of the martyrs in the program held at Hitit Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Çorum Practice Hotel.
In his speech here, Governor Çalgan reminded that 10 years have passed since FETO's treacherous coup attempt.
Stating that the attacks in the past were always carried out by foreign armies, Çalgan said, "This time, a group that infiltrated the state, occupied the authorities of the state, put on their uniforms and took their weapons, rebelled against the state. Their concern was to impose the domination of a group and mentality over this nation, ignoring the national will and the sovereignty of the nation. Thank God, as a result of our martyrs and millions of people who took to the streets, resisting this movement with the call of our President, they surrendered at the end of a struggle that did not even last 24 hours." they became." he said.
Stating that the coup attempt was thwarted by the unshakable stance of the people, Çalgan said, "The coup attempt of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization, which aimed to seize our state and ignore the national will on the night of July 15, 2016, failed thanks to the courage, foresight and love of our nation. The epic written that night was not only the prevention of a coup, but also the declaration to the whole world of the will to protect our independence, democracy and future." he said.
Pointing out that citizens filled the squares upon the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Çalgan said, "Our citizens who filled the squares stood against the tanks, weapons and warplanes with only the faith and love of the country in their hearts, and did not give way to the traitors who targeted the will of our nation, disregarding their lives. That night, our nation defended democracy by saying the will is ours, the victory is ours, and wrote an unforgettable heroic epic." he said.
Çorum Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın stated that Çorum is one of the 8 cities with the highest number of martyrs in the Çanakkale Martyrs' Cemetery.
Stating that time is flowing rapidly and 10 years have passed since the July 15 coup attempt, Aşgın said, "We may not be able to replace our martyrs, but we meet freely at tables and on the streets in our heavenly homeland, under our star and crescent flag. Our children go to school freely. All our institutions, organizations, all the state devices are working, thank God." he said.
Explaining that he felt worried when he heard about military activity on July 15, 2016, Aşgın said:
"This nation, which is the hope of all the oppressed, this nation to which all the oppressed and poor in the world turn their faces, if they kneel down, if God forbid, there is an invasion, if there is a problem, there will be no other nation on earth that represents God's cause and protects the oppressed. The concern was this, not a personal concern. But once again, when our nation is about the homeland, the flag, our religion, our values, this political party, this political party, this political party, their hair is long, short, they have earrings in their ears, no, they are not." "He showed us how to be united, how to be together, and how to save that homeland, without any discrimination. By taking off his jacket and blocking the exhaust, our nation said stop to those tanks, stopped the warplanes flying above, and defended that homeland and nation."
Çorum Chief Public Prosecutor Ahmet Bektaş, Hitit University Rector Prof. attended the program. Dr. Ali Osman Öztürk, Provincial Police Chief Arif Pehlivan and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Senior Colonel Kubilay Ayvaz also attended.
