In Izmir, couple Feride and Şeref Derin got married on December 27, 2023, in a wedding hall in Karabağlar district. The couple, who thought that footage was taken by the cameraman during the wedding, requested the wedding records after the organization. However, they were informed that the images could not be recorded due to a technical problem. When the images were not delivered after months, the couple filed a lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages at the Izmir 4th Consumer Court through their lawyer Ebru Bilgen. The court found the Derin couple right and ordered the wedding hall to pay 100 thousand liras each to the bride and groom, a total of 200 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages.
'IT IS STATED THAT SHOOTING OUTSIDE IS PROHIBITED'
Ebru Bilgen, the lawyer of the Derin couple, stated that their clients were very disappointed and said, "Our clients make an agreement with a wedding hall within the scope of the wedding organization. The hall states that they provide the camera shooting service and that shooting from outside is prohibited. This issue is also included in the contract. There is a mobile camera during the wedding. However, after the wedding, they are told that there is no recording and they are in a great shock."
Stating that the court ruled that non-pecuniary damage occurred, Bilgen said, "In such cases, people's moral damages come to the fore. We applied to the consumer court demanding non-pecuniary damages. The court found us right and decided to pay 200 thousand liras for non-pecuniary damages. My clients were told that the security camera footage could be delivered by adding sound to it. Although it looked like it was being shot, there was no footage that could be presented to the court. It was not confessed in court, but the record button was probably never pressed. My clients are still in shock." "They say that even when they go to their relatives' weddings, they check whether the camera is actually recording," he said.
