The 5th hearing of the case in which Cemil Koç, who was arrested for killing university student Ayşe Tokyaz (22) in ISTANBUL, is on trial with a request for aggravated life imprisonment for the death of Ejegül Ovezova, with whom he lived in Diyarbakır, was held. In his defense, Koç said, "I request a report to be taken to determine whether the fall was suicide or not."

Cemil Koç, who was taken into custody for the murder of university student Ayşe Tokyaz, whose body was found in a suitcase on the side of the road in Eyüpsultan on July 13, 2025, after she was killed in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, was sent to prison by the Criminal Court of Peace on Duty for the crime of 'premeditated murder', and the 6 people who helped him were sent to prison for the crime of 'assisting in premeditated murder'.

While the investigation was ongoing, it was determined that Cemil Koç was also a suspect in the death of Ejegül Ovezova, with whom he lived, who died after falling from an apartment on the 8th floor of a housing complex in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on July 24, 2023.

With the indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the death of Ejegül Ovezova, a lawsuit was filed against Cemil Koç, requesting aggravated life imprisonment, under Article 82/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code, for the crime of 'intentional murder against a woman'.

The lawyers of the parties, the lawyer of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, lawyers from the Diyarbakır Bar Association Women's Rights Center and journalists attended the 5th hearing of the case held at Diyarbakır 6th High Criminal Court.

'LET A REPORT BE GIVEN TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE INCIDENT IS A SUICIDE'

Cemil Koç, who attended the hearing via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from the prison where he was detained, said in his defense, "I repeat my previous defenses, I do not accept the accusations made against me. I request a report to be taken to determine whether the fall was suicide or not. I am innocent, I demand my acquittal."

'They were both jealous, I did not witness them arguing'

Ejegül's friend E. Ö., who was heard as a witness via SEGBİS at the hearing. He said, "The last time I talked to Ejegül, she was making wedding preparations. The couple cared about each other very much. The victim had an alcohol problem. Both Ejegül and Cemil were very jealous. Ejegül would tell me everything. We were talking on the phone, and the last time we talked to her, it was quite normal. I did not witness them arguing. I did not witness the defendant fighting against the victim. Ejegül sometimes lost her balance due to alcohol. This is all I have to say."

After hearing the defense and witnesses, the court panel heard Cemil Koç's brother, C.K., who did not attend the hearing even though he was called as a witness. It decided to issue a decision to bring him by force, to wait for expert reports regarding the crime scene investigations carried out at Ejegül's house within the scope of the investigation, and to continue the detention of Cemil Koç in order to complete some missing issues in the file, and postponed the hearing to 16 October.

HE BLOWED ME, SAYING, 'IF YOU SHOUT, I WILL HIT MORE'

On the other hand, images of Cemil Koç beating Ejegül Ovezova also emerged. In the footage, it was seen that Koç tied Ovezova's hands and feet, dragged her on the ground and slapped her, and said, "If you scream, I'll hit her harder."
