Although 10 years have passed since the coup attempt of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) on July 15, 2016, the traces of that night are preserved as they were in the hotel where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stayed in Marmaris and where the coup plotter soldiers attempted to assassinate him. Two rooms at the Turban Hotel, located in Marmaris Siteler District, are preserved without any changes in accordance with the decision of the hotel owner Yazıcı Family.
Two rooms in the hotel, which were raided by coup plotter soldiers immediately after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan left on the night of the coup attempt, were left as they were, despite the passage of 10 years. While bullet marks are still on the walls of the rooms where the incident took place, the handcuffs and prayer mat belonging to martyr police officer Mehmet Çetin, personnel of the Presidential Protection Department, are also kept in the same room.
To date, no renovations have been made to the preserved rooms so that the night of July 15 will not be forgotten for future generations. The rooms, where not a single nail has been hammered, are only open to visits by members of the press.
Traces were not erased in the hotel where the call for democracy was made
As in all parts of Türkiye, Marmaris went down in history as one of the most critical points of the July 15 coup attempt. While the assassination attempt carried out by coup soldiers against the hotel where President Erdoğan spent his holiday failed, the traces of what happened that night continue to be preserved in the hotel where President Erdoğan invited the nation to the squares to defend democracy.
The walls hit by bullets, the areas where the conflict took place, and some personal belongings from that night are preserved in their original state in order not to erase July 15 from memories.
The names of martyred police officers are kept alive in Marmaris
The names of police officer Nedip Cengiz Eker, who was martyred in the conflict with coup plotter soldiers in Marmaris on the night of July 15, and Mehmet Çetin, the police officer who was martyred in the hotel while working in President Erdoğan's protection team, are also kept alive in Marmaris.
The streets on both sides of Marmaris 15 July Democracy Square, where there are photographs of our martyred police officers, were named after the martyred police officers Nedip Cengiz Eker and Mehmet Çetin. - MUĞLA
