Haluk Levent's Statement: 'I Committed an Irregularity, Not Corruption'

The statement of Haluk Levent, who was detained as part of the investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Ahbap Association, has emerged.

The statement process, which began yesterday at 13:30 at the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, lasted approximately 3 hours. In the investigation, which first came to light with the statements of his driver, Haluk Levent's declarations to the police also corroborated his driver's accounts. According to details shared by A Haber; Levent gave striking answers to questions about financial records and bank transactions.

In his statement to the police regarding money transactions made through bank accounts, Haluk Levent declared, "I personally used Yeliz Kaya's bank accounts, and I do not have a bank account of my own." Levent, clarifying why he did not open an account in his own name, stated, "Because my record is bad, I had to use bank accounts belonging to other names."

Levent, admitting that he used not only Yeliz Kaya's accounts but also those of an individual named Zafer Yayın, distinguished the purposes of using these accounts with the following words: "I used Zafer Yayın's accounts for some transactions on the stock market, and I preferred Yeliz Kaya's accounts for some of my personal transactions."

Speaking also about the use of valuable documents belonging to the Ahbap Association, one of the most striking points of the investigation, Levent admitted that he used the association's checks and promissory notes as collateral in some cases and incurred high amounts of debt. Defending this situation, Levent stated, "You can call this an irregularity, but you cannot call it corruption."

In his statement, Levent also mentioned an asset transfer to the association, stating that he wanted to transfer 20 properties to the Ahbap Association for 80 million TL, but the process could not be completed due to irregularities in title deed transactions. Haluk Levent claimed, "If the operation had occurred after these transactions were completed, there would have been no such investigation."

Haluk Levent and the other suspects, whose police procedures have concluded, will be brought to the Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse after a routine health check. Following their statements before the prosecutor, they will be referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace as per the prosecutor's request.
