Kastamonu University students are preparing to participate in the TEKNOFEST competition with the vehicle they call "Atabey Gazi".
20 students studying at Kastamonu University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture named the team they formed "Independence Road", inspired by the route where weapons were transported from Inebolu to the front during the War of Independence, and the electric vehicle they developed in about 6 months was named after the Seljuk commander Atabey Gazi, who conquered Kastamonu.
Test drives of the 2-seater vehicle, produced entirely by the "İstiklal Yolu" team, except for the engine and battery parts, continue. The team will participate in the pre-selection in the "International Electric Vehicle Races" category to be held in Kocaeli in August, before Şanlıurfa TEKNOFEST.
One of the team members, Kadir Samet Şahin, a second-year student at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, stated to the AA reporter that they did not just design a vehicle, but that they were walking on the path of Türkiye's domestic and national technology move.
While Şahin was building the vehicle, faculty members of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Güran Ünal and Assoc. Dr. Emphasizing that Yücel Çetinceviz was a consultant, he said, "Our vehicle was completely designed in the workshop of Kastamonu University, except for its battery and engine. It is a vehicle made with local resources." he said.
Pointing out that speed and power are required from them in the TEKNOFEST competition they will participate in, Şahin continued as follows:
"We gave importance to aerodynamics and lightness in our vehicle. It consists entirely of carbon fiber structure, which ensures lightness. We used a differential system in our vehicle to avoid problems in turning due to its lightness. This system was also designed here. In our tests, we saw that it reached a speed of 80 kilometers in 20 seconds. Our vehicle has a range of 85-90 kilometers. Since it is light, we can increase this range a little more."

One of the team members, Samet Ali Aybastı, a third-year student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said that he worked in the mechanical part of the vehicle.
Emphasizing that they were satisfied with the results they achieved, Aybastı said, "TEKNOFEST-style activities provide the opportunity to use theoretical knowledge in practice, and we also gain professional experience. Since electric vehicles are the latest technology in the automobile industry, we wanted to design an electric vehicle. We chose to stay true to our roots by naming our team İstiklal Yolu and our vehicle Atabey Gazi." he said.
