Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), stated that Türkiye's strong presence is the strongest guarantee of the Turkish Cypriot people and said, "Our cause is one with our homeland, our future is common." he said.
Minister Ertuğruloğlu made a written statement regarding the coup carried out by Nikos Sampson in Cyprus on July 15, 1974, with the support of the Greek junta, and the coup attempt of the terrorist organization FETO/PDY in Türkiye on July 15, 2016.
Ertuğruloğlu stated that the Sampson coup directly threatened the existence and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Emphasizing that the Turkish nation demonstrated its will with the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the coup attempt of FETO/PDY on July 15, 2016, Ertuğruloğlu reminded that the people took to the streets and did not give way to the coup plotters.
Pointing out that both coups targeted the Turkish presence in Turkey and Cyprus, Ertuğruloğlu said, "Motherland Turkey, by fulfilling its guarantor duty on July 20, 1974, to protect the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people, had to intervene in the island and saved the Turkish Cypriot people from a genocide." he said.
Commemorating with mercy all the martyrs who fell to the ground for the homeland, Ertuğruloğlu said, "Our cause is one with our homeland, our future is common. The strong existence, sovereign rights and democratic stability of the Republic of Turkey are the strongest guarantee of the existence, security and future of the Turkish Cypriot people in these lands." made his assessment.
