In MALTEPE, the car that slowed down to avoid hitting the passenger getting off the natural gas tanker, which caused a traffic incident on the road that was slippery due to rain, was hit by a light commercial vehicle coming from behind. The person who noticed the car skidding due to the impact jumped behind the median and was injured.
The accident occurred at around 11.20 on Başıbüyük District Büyükbakkalköy Road. Allegedly, the natural gas tanker on the road crashed into the barriers and caused a traffic incident as a result of its driver losing control of the steering wheel on the road that was slippery due to rain. The passenger in the tanker wanted to get out of the vehicle and slow down the traffic to prevent another accident. Meanwhile, the female driver of the moving car pressed the brakes to avoid hitting the person on the road. The light commercial vehicle coming from behind hit the car. The tanker passenger, trying to slow down the traffic, threw himself behind the barriers in the median at the last moment to avoid being run over by the car. Upon the notice of the surrounding people, fire brigade, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured person received first aid at the scene and was taken to the hospital by ambulance by medical teams. While police teams controlled traffic from a single lane due to the traffic incident, traffic congestion occurred in the direction of Sancaktepe. Police teams launched an investigation into the accident.
'WE LOST CONTROL WHEN THE CAR COULD NOT STOP'
Kadir Karataş, the driver of the light commercial vehicle involved in the accident, said, "We were driving on Başıbüyük road. The truck had previously made a traffic incident here. When it saw the pedestrian on the road, the car in front of us stopped. The pedestrian threw himself to the other side to avoid getting stuck in the barriers. We notified the police and fire brigade. When the car in front of us stopped on the wet road due to rain, we lost control of our vehicle and crashed into the car. At this time, the pedestrian threw himself to the other side."
