Sivas Yavuz Selim Secondary School students reflected the pictures of the July 15 martyrs on canvas in a 2-year activity.
The 15 July themed painting exhibition, prepared by Yavuz Selim Secondary School visual arts teacher Hayriye Özay and her students with 2 years of effort, was opened in front of the Memorial Center prepared behind the Atatürk and Congress Museum.
The pictures of those who were martyred in the coup attempt of FETO on July 15, prepared with acrylic paint on canvas and integrated with the Turkish flag, were presented to the citizens.
Visual arts teacher Hayriye Özay told the AA correspondent that they prepared such an activity by taking action with the students in order to keep the memories of the July 15 martyrs alive.
Stating that they took action upon the request of school principal Süleyman Öcalan and the request for completion in 4 years, Özay said, "We tried to shorten this 4-year period as much as we could, and completed it in 2 years. This activity was done with acrylic paint on 50x70 sized canvases. It is not only a course activity, but also a club and volunteer activity. It is an activity that emerges with the sacrifice of teachers, students, parents and administrators." he said.
"Some people say they got goosebumps"
Emphasizing that the students made the sacrifice they could in this activity, Özay continued his words as follows:
"This is also a group activity. In other words, when a student made a mistake when he started the activity, another student immediately took action to correct it and completed it in the best possible way. We did this activity in a workshop environment with our 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. There is a great effort in this activity. We have 216 paintings here. We aim to complete our shortcomings with our children this year."
Özay thanked the citizens who visited the exhibition for their sensitive behavior and said, "Some of our citizens who visited the exhibition were touched. There were those who said 'We got goosebumps'. There is a great effort here. It was received with great appreciation." he said.
One of the students, Ahmet Berat Koç, who is in the 8th grade, said that he felt proud while doing this activity.
Explaining that they reflected the memory of the July 15 heroes on canvases, Koç said, "I have 7 works in this exhibition. It was really proud and moving. We opened a beautiful exhibition. Citizens who visit our exhibition are touched." he said.
6th grade student Elif Nur Yivli also expressed that she was both proud and emotional while making the works.
Stating that they put in a lot of effort, Yivli said, "We were proud when it was finished. Our martyrs would be very happy if they saw these. Those who visit our exhibition are proud, thank us and say, 'It is very beautiful, thank you.'" He said his words.
Cemre Davşan, one of the students, said that 4 of her works were included in the exhibition and said, "Those who visit our exhibition are very happy and proud of us. We are also proud of them." he said.
