Heavy downpour and hail in Tekirdağ's Süleymanpaşa district caused disaster in four neighborhoods. Fields planted with sunflower, watermelon and canola in an area of ​​approximately 35 thousand decares were greatly damaged.

Heavy rain and hail, which hit the rural areas of Tekirdağ's Süleymanpaşa district yesterday evening, negatively affected life in Ferhadanlı, Hacıköy, Ahmedikli and Güveçli Neighborhoods of Süleymanpaşa district. While the roofs of some houses were blown off, the branches of many trees were broken. Large-scale damage was caused to agricultural areas due to hail.

Traces of the disaster were revealed at dawn

Tekirdağ Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Director Mehmet Aksoy, together with the provincial and district directorate teams, inspected the damaged neighborhoods. Aksoy stated that damage assessment activities have been started in an area of ​​​​approximately 35 thousand decares, and that it will take two days for accurate detection in sunflower fields, and that activities have started with TARSİM teams in watermelon and canola fields.

Aksoy said, "Our District Directorate and Provincial Directorate teams have been on the field since yesterday evening. We have started damage assessment activities. However, due to heavy hail, it is not possible to make a reliable assessment in the muddy and wet land. Four of our neighborhoods in an area of ​​approximately 35 thousand decares were damaged. We will quickly report the damage assessments to our Presidency. We will try to cover the damage of our farmers with the support to be provided from both TARSİM and our Presidency. Our farmers should apply to TARSİM and our district directorates without delay." he said.

"We've been working hard since March, it's all gone"

Kader Filiz, a farmer in Ferhadanlı District, explained the victimization they experienced with the following words:

"We planted 4 thousand seeds, they are all gone. What can we do? Let them think of a solution for them. We have been sowing, planting and watering since March. I hope they will support us. Half of them should go from us, the other half should go from them, but something should be done. We have been sad since the evening. There is nothing we can do, we will say thank God, but our sadness is great. Not only our orchards, but also our gardens are gone."

Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candan Yüceer also visited the neighborhoods affected by the hail and met with citizens. Yüceer, who inspected the damaged agricultural lands and residential areas, received information about the activities from the teams.
