Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen announced that a Saudi Arabian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down in the city of Beyda in the central part of the country.
Houthi Military Spokesperson Yahya al-Seri stated in his written statement that the Saudi Arabian surveillance UAV was shot down in the morning hours.
Seri stated that the aircraft he claimed to have shot down in Beyda province was a Chinese-made CAIG Wing Loong II type UAV.
There was no statement from Saudi Arabia on the issue.
In Yemen, the Iran-backed Houthis have been in control of the capital Sanaa and some regions since September 2014.
Coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
The Yemeni government announced yesterday that it carried out an attack on the Sana Airport runway under the control of the Houthis to prevent an Iranian plane from entering the country's airspace.
The Houthis claimed that Sanaa Airport was bombed by Saudi Arabia.
After the bombing of Sanaa International Airport, the Iranian plane changed its route and landed at Hodeidah Airport in the west of the country.
The Houthis later announced that they targeted Abha Airport in the south of Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and UAVs.
