MEXICO CITY, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated their determination to protect Mexican citizens abroad, especially those living in the United States, against the current US immigration policies.
Sheinbaum said at a press conference at the National Palace in the capital Mexico City on Wednesday that they hope the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement will put an end to the raids affecting the Mexican community in the country.
Criticizing the opposition parties for not supporting the government after the deaths of 17 Mexican citizens in incidents involving the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Sheinbaum also called on political parties and the Congressional Standing Committee to raise their voices against human rights violations affecting Mexican immigrants.
Immigrant rights activists on Tuesday called on the Mexican government to sue private companies that operate US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers.
The Mexican government, on the other hand, announced that they filed a criminal complaint with the state prosecutors' offices in the USA, demanding an investigation into the deaths of 17 Mexican citizens under the supervision of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency or during the agency's operations.
