The second hearing of the case regarding the murder of Mehmet Saki Pehlivan (40) in DIYARBAKIR, in which his wife Aslıhan Pehlivan (38) and her lover Mehmet Cengiz (46) were tried in detention with a request for aggravated life imprisonment, was held. Speaking at the hearing, Veysi Pehlivan, the elder brother of the victim, said, "My brother was brutally murdered in his home. I demand that these two immoral people be punished with the heaviest punishment for exemplary purposes."
The incident took place in the evening hours of April 11, 2025, in Batıkent Sitesi in Selahattin Eyyubi District of Bağlar district. Mehmet Saki Pehlivan, who went to the house where his wife Aslıhan Pehlivan, who was in the process of divorcing and who had a restraining order against him, was beaten by Mehmet Cengiz during the argument that broke out there. After Mehmet Cengiz left the house, Aslıhan Pehlivan informed him, the woman's relatives also came to the house. The people at home called 112 Emergency Call Center for Mehmet Saki Pehlivan, who remained motionless on the ground, saying 'He fainted'. Medical teams were dispatched to the address. Health workers reported the situation to the police for Mehmet Saki Pehlivan, who was reported to have no pulse and traces of blows on his body.
Mehmet Saki Pehlivan, who was taken to a nearby private hospital after his first aid, fell down with the stretcher while he was being taken out of the ambulance in front of the emergency room. While those moments were captured on camera, Pehlivan, who was taken to hospital for treatment, could not be saved. The Provincial Health Directorate also launched an administrative investigation regarding Pehlivan falling on a stretcher while being taken out of the ambulance. Additionally, footage of Mehmet Saki Pehlivan, his wife and relatives entering the building was also captured on camera.
Aslıhan Pehlivan, who was detained during the investigation into the incident, was sent to prison, and 7 of her relatives were released. Mehmet Cengiz, who was detained within the scope of the investigation, was also arrested in the court and sent to prison.
Regarding the incident, a lawsuit was filed against Mehmet Cengiz for 'deliberate murder' and Aslıhan Pehlivan for 'deliberate murder against her spouse', requesting aggravated life imprisonment.
The second hearing of the case was held at Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court. The victim's family and lawyers, Aslıhan Pehlivan, who is on trial in detention, and her lover Mehmet Cengiz and their lawyers attended the hearing. Defendant Mehmet Cengiz, who was heard at the hearing, described the day of the incident and said, "I offer my condolences to the family of the victim. I am very sorry. We met Aslıhan at our workplace. About a month before the incident, Aslıhan told me that she wanted to divorce her husband. Then, the day before the incident, the tap of her house broke down and she said, 'Can you help me?' Afterwards, she said that the key to the house was lost. She asked me to find a locksmith. After the locksmith finished his job, she called me. Her husband's He said that he had taken the key that was changed at home and they had an argument. One day before the incident, I went to his house upon Aslıhan's request. He told me that he was in the village because he had a restraining order. I told him to call me and Aslıhan said that no one should see me here and that I should leave as soon as possible. At that moment, I was wearing only my underpants and an undershirt. I couldn't breathe because of the struggle. After leaving there, I went to the emergency room of Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital in the evening. The doctors told me that I had a heart attack and that I needed an angiogram. Then I rested at home for a week. Aslıhan's brothers came and told me that the man had died and that Aslıhan had been sent to prison.
Aslıhan Pehlivan stated that Cengiz was lying and said, "Nothing Mehmet Cengiz said is true. I went to my father's grave in the morning, and after seeing my husband's condition when I came home, we stayed at home for 15-20 minutes. I checked his pulse and said, 'Look, he is not moving.' After I went to the cemetery, I told you to leave the house. He said, 'I will leave when my car arrives.' When I saw my wife on the ground, we did not call the ambulance immediately. My boyfriend tried to calm me down." He was working. My wife was coming home almost every day. After I became a police officer, I got a restraining order for the second time. My husband did not come home for 10 days before the incident. Since there was a restraining order, I blocked my husband Mehmet on the phone. When I kept calling him, I would block his phone again.
'WILL A PERSON NOT FEEL SAFE IN HOME?'
Speaking at the hearing, Veysi Pehlivan, the elder brother of the victim, asked for the defendants to be punished in the harshest way and said:
"My brother was brutally murdered in his own home. Can't a person feel safe in his own home? I demand that these two immoral people be punished with the heaviest punishment for exemplary purposes."
Following the defenses, the presiding judge decided to continue the detention of the defendants and postpone the hearing to 19 November in order to correct some deficiencies in the file and to wait for the Forensic Medicine Institute's report.
