It was claimed that US President Donald Trump, in his phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted Israel to reduce its military presence in Syria and begin withdrawing from Lebanon.
According to Axios, based on US and Israeli officials, Trump said in a phone call with Netanyahu on July 9 that the presence of the Israeli army in Syria caused tension and could increase the risk of conflict.
Officials reported that Trump said to Netanyahu, "They don't want you there. You should redeploy your forces," and that he made the same assessment for Lebanon.
Stating that the Trump administration has been trying to reach a new security agreement between Israel and Syria for months, officials stated that Israel is not willing to make the requested concessions.
As the 6th round of direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon started today in Rome, the capital of Italy, delegations from the two countries held talks at the US Embassy in Rome.
