A very critical development occurred in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes Investigation Bureau, which covers allegations of violating Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports and match-fixing.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated in his remarks regarding the details of the operation that the process was carried out under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
Gürlek underlined that football should be associated with justice and honest effort, using the following expressions:
"Every dubious structure, relationship, and action that harms the spirit of sports and casts a shadow on the credibility of football will be resolutely pursued. Judicial processes are being meticulously carried out to establish clean football, protect the reliability of sports, and shed light on incidents that wound the conscience of our nation."
The most striking aspect of the investigation was the betting patterns of the suspect executives. According to the statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; a massive examination covering the years 2020-2026 was conducted through legal betting platforms (Misli, Nesine, Oley, Tuttur, İddaa, Bilyoner, Birebin) and MASAK's financial analyses.
The findings revealed that during the periods when the suspect club executives were actively serving, they placed bets on the opposing team's victory or on goal-related bets (over/under, etc.) in matches played by their own clubs.
As a result of the examination of financial data provided by MASAK, proceedings have been initiated against a total of 19 suspects whose information is listed below:
