BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- New energy vehicles accounted for 49.42 percent of newly registered cars in China in the first half of the year. This represents an increase of 4.45 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
According to data released by China's Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday, in the January-June period, the ministry's traffic units registered more than 5.19 million new energy vehicles, a total of 10.51 million cars and 5.11 million motorcycles.
As of the end of June, in the country where there are a total of 476 million vehicles, 371 million of which are automobiles, a total of 567 million licensed drivers, 533 million of which are automobile drivers, have been registered.
While the number of new energy vehicles was 48.97 million, corresponding to 13.19 percent of all automobiles in the country, 68.77 percent of new energy vehicles were fully electric vehicles.
