JAKARTA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will host an international "blue economy" forum in the Banyuwangi district of the country's East Java province on Friday and Saturday.
At the ASEAN-ID Blue Forum, which will be held with the participation of ASEAN members and partner countries, best practices for sustainable ocean-based development will be discussed. The forum will be organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry official Adhyanti Sardanarini Wirajuda said on Monday that the Banyuwangi region was chosen for the forum because of its success in integrating marine conservation activities with fisheries, tourism, small businesses and community empowerment.
Wirajuda stated that the region in question offers a development model that Indonesia aims to share with the countries participating in the forum.
The forum, where representatives of ASEAN member countries, East Asia Summit participating countries and Pacific Islands Forum members will come together, aims to strengthen regional cooperation on the blue economy and sustainable marine resources management.
