Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Chairman Gürsel Baran stated that the trade volume between Turkey and Ghana has reached 844 million dollars by 2025 and said, "We are now very close to our 1 billion dollar trade target. I believe we will exceed this target in a short time."
ATO President Gürsel Baran hosted Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Manpower, Employment and Labor of the Republic of Ghana, and his accompanying delegation in his office. During the meeting, which included Sheikh Abdul Nasiru-Deen, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Ankara, Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Kwadwo Adgyei-Dwomor, Undersecretary and Consular Affairs Officer Nana Kusi Wassif Mograbi, Commercial Attaché Josephine Dzotsi and ATO Secretary General Ahmet Güran, the development of commercial and economic relations between Turkey and Ghana, investment opportunities and cooperation opportunities between the business world were discussed.

In his speech during the visit, Baran stated that Turkey-Ghana relations have gained momentum within the framework of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's African initiative vision and said, "Following our President's visit to Ghana in 2016, the relations between the two countries have become stronger day by day. The trade volume between Turkey and Ghana has reached 844 million dollars as of 2025. We are now very close to our 1 billion dollar trade target. I believe we will exceed this target in a short time."
Reminding that the Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Türkiye and Ghana have been completed but not yet signed, Baran said that the entry into force of the agreement will significantly accelerate trade and investments between the two countries. Stating that Turkish Airlines' direct flights between Istanbul and Accra provide significant convenience for the business world, Baran noted that transportation opportunities also strengthen commercial relations.
"Our Turkish contractors have carried out projects worth more than 800 million dollars in Ghana to date."
Stating that the Turkish contracting sector has undertaken important projects in Ghana, ATO President Baran shared the information: "Our Turkish contractors, who are successful and experienced in the energy, construction and infrastructure sectors, have made significant contributions to the infrastructure of the country by carrying out more than 15 projects worth more than 800 million dollars in Ghana to date."
Stating that the 25 million dollar gold refinery established by a Turkish company in the capital Accra is one of the concrete examples of economic cooperation between the two countries, Baran said, "Approximately 800 Turkish companies doing business in various fields, especially the energy sector, contribute to the economic development of your country."
Stating that Ghana is one of the strongest economies in West Africa, Baran said that the country's economy attracts attention with its population of approximately 35 million, investment-friendly structure, free zones and the advantage of access to regional markets. Baran noted that Ghana, in addition to its strong position in cocoa, gold and oil production, also has significant potential in the service, industry and agriculture sectors.
In his speech, Baran also gave information about Ankara and Ankara's economy, drawing attention to the potential of the capital in the fields of defense industry, health technologies, education and health tourism.
Stating that Ankara is an important center in health services, Baran said, "Ankara has an important position in the field of health with the health services it offers, advanced technology and medical production capacity."
In his speech, Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister of Manpower, Employment and Labor of the Republic of Ghana, praised Türkiye's healthcare infrastructure and stated that many people from Ghana come to Türkiye to receive healthcare services. Pelpuo stated that he was among those receiving healthcare services in Türkiye.
Pointing out the importance of Turkish Airlines' direct flights between Istanbul and Accra, Minister Pelpuo said that many people from Ghana prefer THY to go to European countries.
Minister Pelpuo stated that they will include among their priority activities the issue of how to accelerate the Free Trade Agreement process, which was brought to the agenda by ATO President Gürsel Baran.
Stating that the situation achieved by Türkiye and the good relations it maintains with Ghana are satisfactory for them, Minister Pelpuo said that Türkiye is rapidly leaving its position as a country in a difficult situation and now sets an example for less developed countries.
In his speech, Sheikh Abdul Nasiru-Deen, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Ankara, said that they want to benefit from Türkiye's knowledge and experience in order to develop the entrepreneurial skills of Ghanaian youth. Ambassador Nasiru-Deen pointed out the importance of Ghanaian young people seeing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Türkiye and bringing the experience they will gain to their country.
The Ambassador also touched upon the issue of mutually increasing official business delegations between the two countries and stated that the establishment of institutional trade delegations will strengthen the contacts between the business world. The Ambassador added that they would like to organize a visit program to Ghana under the coordination of ATO. - ANKARA
