Reacting to the description of July 15 as "theater" by some circles, Mehmet Ayaz stated that what happened was a bloody coup attempt carried out with real bullets. Ayaz said, "Real bullets are not used in theatre, people do not die; July 15 was not a scenario, it was a betrayal." he said.
Stating that citizens came to the squares with great determination after the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ayaz stated that the most important element that the coup plotters could not calculate was the will of the nation. Ayaz said, "After President Erdoğan's call, people flowed like water and there was an incredible crowd." he said.
Describing one of the most painful moments he experienced on the bridge, Mehmet Ayaz expressed his feelings when he saw a young citizen who was shot: "There was a child who was shot; I looked at his face and said, 'You are becoming a martyr, my son.' I can never forget that face." Ayaz also emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs should be accurately explained to future generations.
Stating that he fought that night, disregarding people's lives, Ayaz explained his experiences as follows: "God took away the fear of death from us. Bullets were being fired, but we did not feel that fear. There is no explanation for the events we experienced on the bridge."
Stating that July 15 left deep traces in his life, Ayaz stated that he still carries the effects of the trauma he experienced. "I still haven't been able to return to my working life. I haven't been able to concentrate on my job and work." Ayaz said that the psychological effects of that night continued even after years.
Emphasizing that July 15 should not be forgotten, Mehmet Ayaz said that it is of great importance that especially the younger generations learn correctly about what happened. Ayaz said, "This country has always been betrayed from within. July 15 needs to be explained very well, especially to our youth." he said.
