(ISTANBUL) - Altan Öymen, the 5th Chairman of the CHP, journalist, writer, Honorary Founder of ANKA News Agency, Member of the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC), winner of the 2003 Burhan Felek Press Service Award, Press Honor Card and former Chairman of the Honorary Board of TGC, will be commemorated at his grave in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery on Monday, July 20, at 11:00.
Journalist and writer Altan Öymen died in Istanbul on July 19, 2025. TGC Board members, TGC members and loved ones will attend Altan Öymen's memorial ceremony.
He was born in Istanbul in 1932. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences in 1955. He started his career in 1950. He worked as a reporter, interviewer, manager, writer and editor-in-chief in Ulus, Akşam, Cumhuriyet and Milliyet newspapers, and later as the Ankara Representative of Tercüman. He founded Anka Agency. He prepared news broadcasts and documentaries for radio and television at home and abroad. He served as press attaché in Germany. He also took part in politics, starting from his membership in the Constituent Assembly in 1961. He served as a member of parliament, ministry, party and group manager. His last position in politics was CHP Chairman. He wrote for Radikal Newspaper between 2005-2016. He received the Sedat Simavi Radio and Television Award in 1990 and the Turkish Journalists Association Burhan Felek Press Service Award in 2003 for the documentary "World War II and Turkey" with Arsal Soley and Sedat Örsel. He was deemed worthy of praise in the Social Sciences category at the Sedat Simavi Awards in 2014 with his work "And the Revolution". He served as the Chairman of the Professional Principles Commission of the Turkish Journalists Association between 2017-2019 and the Chairman of the TGC Honorary Board between 2019-2025. He was married and had two children. He was carrying the 2003 Burhan Felek Press Service Award and the Press Honor Card. He knew German and French fluently.
