During the ongoing construction activity in BAHÇELİEVLER, the retaining wall of the adjacent 6-storey apartment building was damaged. The building, where noises were coming from its columns, was evacuated last night as a precaution. Vefa Kuşener, the contractor of the 15-flat building, said, "The work was carried out in accordance with the project. After the excavation was completed and the construction equipment was removed from the site, a collapse occurred in the space between the two parcels. The old licensed project of the adjacent building has 3 basement floors. However, the building was left at the level of 1 basement floor and two illegal floors were added to the upper parts."
During the ongoing construction activity in Bahçelievler Hürriyet District Polat Street, the retaining wall of the adjacent 6-storey apartment building was damaged and sounds were heard from its columns. Upon notice, municipal teams were dispatched to the scene. Following the inspections, the building containing 15 flats was evacuated and temporarily sealed as a precaution.
Vefa Kuşener, the contractor of the construction, stated that the excavation activities were carried out in accordance with the static project and ground survey report approved by the municipality, and said, "The excavation elevation given to us was minus 4.90. The work was carried out completely at this elevation and in accordance with the project. Necessary grading activities were carried out during the excavation. After the excavation was completed and the construction equipment was removed from the site, a collapse occurred in the space between the two parcels. Due to a possible risk, the municipality's technical teams came to the scene and evacuated the building as a precaution." he said.
Claiming that the building next door was not built in accordance with its license, Kuşener said, "There are 3 basement floors in the old licensed project of the adjacent building. However, the building was left at 1 basement floor level, and two illegal floors were added to the upper parts. For this reason, the foundation level remained higher than it should be. When we went down to minus 4.90 level, as per the project approved by the municipality, we went below the foundation level of the neighboring building. Due to the risk, the municipal teams took the necessary precautions."
