Great Unity Party (BBP) Founding Chairman Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu took off with a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger type helicopter to go to Yozgat's Yerköy district after the rally in Kahramanmaraş's Çağlayancerit district on 25 March 2009, within the scope of local election activities. The helicopter crashed in the Keş Mountain region of Göksun district of Kahramanmaraş; Along with Yazıcıoğlu, BBP Sivas Provincial Chairman Erhan Üstündağ, Provincial Deputy Chairman Yüksel Yancı, Municipal Council Member Candidate Murat Çetinkaya, İHA reporter İsmail Güneş and pilot Mustafa Kaya İstektepe lost their lives.
The file opened after this painful incident was sent to the Ankara chief prosecutor's office on June 12 to continue the proceedings. While the repercussions of the incident continued, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made important statements regarding the investigation while answering journalists' questions after the Cabinet Meeting.
Stating that new detentions were made in the investigation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Minister Gürlek said, "Our Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office continues the investigation. There have been new detentions. Among those taken here are retired soldiers." he said.
Gürlek: "Are there those affiliated with FETO among the suspects in the investigation?" "Yes, there is." he replied.
In the statement made by Minister Gürlek on his social media account; It was stated that 29 suspects were identified within the scope of the investigation. It was reported that a simultaneous operation was carried out at 30 addresses in 10 provinces, centered in Ankara, regarding the suspects on charges of 'establishing, managing and being a member of an armed terrorist organization' and 'premeditated murder'.
It was reported that 25 suspects were detained during the operation, 2 of the suspects were already in prison and 2 were abroad. It was stated that activities are continuing to capture the suspects who are on the run.
