Batman Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry established a "prediction and early warning system" in the vineyards and pistachio orchards in Gercüş district in order to increase efficiency and quality in agricultural production.
With the "prediction and early warning system" established in Gercüş district, risks such as frost, hail, drought, excessive rainfall, heat wave and strong wind will be analyzed in advance. The possibility of plant diseases and pests will be evaluated in advance and the best time for spraying will be determined. The water needs of the plants will be determined instantly and the irrigation time will be planned; The most appropriate fertilization time will be recommended. With interventions made at the right time, it is aimed to reduce production costs and prevent product losses.
Batman Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Necdet Tuncer and Gercüş District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Kenan Atalay, who examined the installation activities of the system on site, came together with the producers and gave information about the application. Pointing out the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production, Tuncer emphasized that prediction and early warning systems are vital for sustainable agriculture. Tuncer said, "Thanks to this system, we will determine disease and pest risks in advance and send instant alerts to our producers' mobile phones via text messages and mobile applications. Thanks to these applications, our agricultural production will become more planned, more economical and much more resistant to climate conditions."
