As part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day events, the "Our Will, Our Homeland" conference was held in Çankırı.
In the program organized by Çankırı Karatekin University Turkic Studies Institute Directorate at the Uluyazı Campus Rectorate Conference Hall, a moment of silence was observed and the National Anthem was sung.
Rector Prof. made the opening speech after the recitation of the Holy Quran. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş said that they came together to salute the nation's victory written 10 years ago.
Karataş stated that on July 15, 2016, a sudden night raid attempt by the dark structure huddled around the state to attack the flag, call to prayer, rights and freedoms was thwarted by the perseverance, faith and determination of the nation, and said, "251 of our citizens, who did not give way to terrorists and shielded themselves for the sake of the homeland in the dark night, were martyred, and 2 thousand 196 of our heroes and citizens were injured. The Turkish nation protects its homeland, religion, freedom and "He once again showed the world what he can risk and what he can achieve when it comes to his future." he said.
Thanking President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the martyrs and veterans, police and soldiers, political party leaders, non-governmental organizations and press members who stood against the coup attempt, Karataş said, "These heroes and martyrs who came out of Çankırı were buried not as names under this soil, but as medals of honor on the chest of this nation. We commemorate our heroic martyrs who lay in front of their tanks for the homeland and prevented the coup plotters without blinking an eye, knowing that they would die." We remember him once again with mercy and gratitude." he said.
After Karataş's speech, a movie on the subject of July 15 was shown.
Making a presentation as a speaker at the conference, Deputy Director of the Turkic Studies Institute Assoc. Dr. Recep Büyüktolu also said that the knowledge of July 15 was gained through experience, not through books, and that the danger was still not over and the operations were continuing.
Stating that they will speak at the conference to remind some things and understand July 15, Büyüktolu said, "Actually, it is a difficult task to explain July 15 properly. Its difficulty stems from conscientious responsibility. We have come out, talked, given conferences, presented declarations many times so far, but giving a speech here on July 15 is not like the others." he said.
Expressing that July 15 was not just a coup attempt, but an invasion attempt and betrayal, Büyüktolu said, "July 15 was not a momentary action by a person disguised as a clergyman or preacher with crocodile tears. July 15 is a betrayal that spanned a period of 50-55 years." he said.
Governor Hüseyin Çakırtaş, Garrison Commander Brigadier General Cumhur Yazgan, Chief Public Prosecutor Huzeyfe Yücedağ, institution directors, relatives of martyrs, veterans, academics and citizens attended the program.
