(ANKARA) - CHP İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan asked the Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi about the claim that there were civilians on a boat belonging to the Coast Guard Command that committed a traffic incident in Giresun. Stating that it was claimed that alcohol was consumed on the boat, the Minister asked Çiftçi, "Is it true that 4 civilians were involved in the accident in question? If so, who are these people, what are their ages, genders and reasons for being on the boat?" posed the question.
CHP Izmir Deputy Murat Bakan brought the allegations about the Coast Guard Command's patrol boat crashing into the breakwater rocks in Giresun to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
In his parliamentary question, which he requested to be answered by the Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi, the Minister asked about the identities of the 4 civilians who were said to be involved in the accident, their reasons for being on the boat and the investigations carried out regarding the incident.
In his motion, Murat Bakan stated that at around 23:00 on the night of July 13, a coast guard patrol boat on duty at the Giresun Coast Guard 73 Command crashed into the T-shaped breakwater/rocks on the Giresun Teyyaredüzü coast. Stating that the boat climbed onto the rocks due to the impact, the Minister said, "Allegedly, there were 1 petty officer, 2 specialist sergeants and 4 civilians on the boat. It is claimed that the civilians in question were young women in their 20s."
The Minister stated that after the accident, military personnel and civilians were transferred to different hospitals for precautionary purposes and that it was announced that there were no serious life-threatening injuries, but noted that no statement was made to the public about the identities of the civilians, the authority and permission under which they boarded the boat, and their reasons for being on the boat.
In his proposal, the Minister also drew attention to the allegations that some women from a business circle operating in the Giresun-Bulancak Burunucu coast area and organizing SUP (Stand Up Paddle) events were taken onto the coast guard boat from time to time and that alcohol was consumed on the boat.
Stating that small-scale fishermen operating in Giresun have had complaints about some practices of the Coast Guard personnel for a while, the Minister stated that the allegations that some personnel "exhibited harsh, rude and arbitrary attitudes and behaviors" towards citizens should also be investigated.
CHP Minister asked the following questions to Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi:
"- Is it true that 4 civilians were involved in the accident in question? If so, who are these people, what are their ages, genders and reasons for being on the boat?"
Are the statements in the press that 'an investigation is ongoing into whether the injured civilians were on the beach or on the boat during the traffic incident' are true? How were the people in question involved in the accident?
Are the allegations that some women from the business environment that organizes SUP activities operating in the Giresun-Bulancak Burunucu coast area are occasionally taken onto the coast guard boat and that alcohol is consumed on the boat, are being investigated? If researched, what are the results?
Is there an administrative and judicial investigation conducted by the Coast Guard Command within the scope of the traffic incident and allegations in question? "If so, who is being investigated and on what grounds?"
