Sağlık-Sen Şırnak Branch President Sabgatullah Anmal stated that Cizre was not an ordinary district on July 15 and said, "It was a city where a de facto curfew continued after the pit incidents. People had not been able to leave their homes for months. However, when it came to the homeland on the night of July 15, everyone left their fear behind. Our citizens listened to the will of the nation, not the ban."
On the night of July 15, 2016, while the FETO coup plotters' attempt to target the constitutional order continued, the coup plotter soldiers at the Şırnak Çakırsöğüt Gendarmerie Commando Brigade Command planned to reach Şırnak Şerafettin Elçi Airport via Cizre with armored vehicles. However, this plan of the coup plotters was thwarted by the determined stance of the police forces and the citizens who were united in Cizre. Sabgatullah Anmal, Chairman of Sağlık-Sen Şırnak Branch, one of the witnesses of the coup attempt, said that the resistance in Cizre was one of the most critical breaking moments in the history of Türkiye's democracy. Anmal said, "Cizre was not an ordinary district that day. It was a city where there was a de facto curfew after the Çukur incidents. People could not leave their homes for months. However, on the night of July 15, when it came to the homeland, everyone left their fear behind. Our citizens did not listen to the ban, but to the will of the nation. They left their homes, sided with our security forces and built a wall of flesh in front of the coup plotters."
Stating that the resistance line established in Cizre was publicly known as the "105th Resistance Point", Anmal stated that this point played a critical role in the failure of the coup attempt. Anmal said, "The coup plotters wanted to advance with fully equipped armored vehicles. They were only faced with people defending their homeland. That night, the people of Cizre put their lives on the line and blocked the coup plotters. This resistance is a great example of heroism written in golden letters not only in the history of Cizre but also in the history of Türkiye's democracy. Our healthcare workers fought to reach the injured citizens without thinking about their own lives. That night, the white coats were on democracy watch as much as our citizens in the squares."
Emphasizing that the spirit of July 15 was kept alive with the determination of the first day, Anmal said that the nation will continue to protect its state and democracy. Anmal said, "July 15 is not just a repelled coup attempt. That night, this nation declared to the whole world that its will could not be surrendered. Those who wanted to disintegrate, weaken Türkiye and drag it into regional chaos were defeated by the determined stance of our nation. We stand by our state with the same faith and determination today as we were in the squares yesterday."
At the end of his speech, Anmal commemorated the martyrs of July 15 with mercy and gratitude and said, "We commemorate our 253 heroes who were martyred to protect the national will, Mehmet Zeki Macartay, nicknamed 'Muhtar', the health martyr of Cizre, and express our gratitude to our veterans. This nation will never hesitate to put their lives on the line when their homeland is at stake." - ŞIRNAK
