A blood donation campaign organized by the Turkish Red Crescent was held in Edirne on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

Volunteer donors were accepted throughout the day at the blood donation point established on Saraçlar Street.

Turkish Red Crescent Edirne Provincial President Gözde Emel Baytar, in her statement to journalists, stated that July 15 is the symbol of unity and solidarity and that solidarity is continued with blood donation on this meaningful day.

Stating that they organize a campaign at the same point every year on July 15, Baytar said, "Today, we commemorate our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this country and express our gratitude to our veterans. With our blood donation campaign, we aim to keep their cherished memory alive and provide hope to those in need. We know that one unit of blood can give life hope to three people. I would like to thank all our citizens who donated." he said.

Turkish Red Crescent Edirne Blood Donation Center Director Dr. Batuhan Change also stated that safe blood supply is only possible with regular voluntary donations.

Inviting healthy individuals to donate blood, change said, "Blood is a treatment element that is constantly needed and cannot be produced instead. For this reason, the donations of healthy citizens between the ages of 18-65 are of great importance. With this campaign held on the national unity day, we aim to both raise awareness and contribute to the blood stocks of our hospitals." he said.

Stating that blood donation takes approximately 15 minutes and that a single donation can be used in the treatment of three patients, Change stated that Edirne Blood Donation Center continues its activities throughout the year to meet the needs of the health institutions in its area of ​​responsibility.

change stated that blood donations in the city are increasing every year, and that 10,500 units of blood donations have been received so far this year, and their annual target is to exceed 20,000 units.

Stating that the population in the age group that can donate blood in Edirne is approximately 250 thousand people, change said that if the target is achieved, the regular donation rate will exceed the average of Türkiye and thanked the volunteer donors.
