Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan published a message on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
In his message, Gencan stated that the coup attempt on July 15, 2016 was failed thanks to the nation's determination to protect democracy and free will.
Emphasizing that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation" is one of the fundamental foundations of the Republic and the strongest expression of the will of the nation, Gencan stated that it is a common responsibility to stand against all kinds of initiatives aimed at democracy, the rule of law and national sovereignty.
Stating that preserving the achievements of the Republic, democratic values and the rule of law is the most important condition for leaving a stronger Türkiye to future generations, Gencan included the following statements in his message:

Gencan concluded his message by saying, "On July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, I commemorate our martyrs who lost their lives for the sake of their homeland and democracy, and express my gratitude and gratitude to our veterans.
