The aggravated life imprisonment sentence given by the local court to the defendant who stabbed his wife to death in the middle of the street, with whom he was in the process of divorcing in Malatya, was commuted to 24 years of imprisonment by applying an unfair provocation reduction in the case that was heard again following the reversal decision of the court of appeal.
The incident took place on November 1, 2021 in Selçuklu District of Battalgazi district. Allegedly, Nursel Taşkın (38), a mother of 3 children, who left home to go to the market, was attacked by her husband İrfan Taşkın (40), with whom she was in the process of divorcing. Taşkın, who was stabbed multiple times in the middle of the street, died at the scene, while the detained suspect was sent to prison by the court.
In the first trial at Malatya 4th High Criminal Court, the defendant İrfan Taşkın was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment without any discretionary reduction for the crime of "intentional murder against his spouse". Gaziantep Regional Court of Justice, which examined the file upon the application of the defendant and the parties, ruled that the file regarding the divorce case between the parties should also be evaluated and overturned the decision of the local court.
Following the reversal decision, the defendant appeared before the judge again in the case that was heard again at the Malatya 4th High Criminal Court. The court board applied the provisions of unfair provocation to the defendant and sentenced him to 24 years in prison for "intentional murder of his spouse". While the panel did not apply discretionary relief in favor of the defendant, it decided to continue his detention with the verdict. - MALATYA
