A panel was organized by Hakkari University within the scope of "15 July Democracy and National Unity Day".
Speaking at the panel, which started with a moment of silence in the Rectorate conference hall, the reading of the National Anthem and the recitation of the Holy Quran, Hakkari Governor and Deputy Mayor İbrahim Taşyapan said that democracy and the legitimate government were targeted with the coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
Stating that 10 years have passed since the coup attempt, Taşyapan said, "The 10th, 50th and 100th anniversaries are important periods of time to commemorate such events. This is an event that we all watched live on television and experienced personally. We commemorate an event that we experienced personally, not an event that remained in history. These commemoration ceremonies are organized in order not to forget the events and not to let them be forgotten." he said.
Explaining that the country has a history accustomed to coups, coup attempts, postmodern coups and e-memorandums, Taşyapan said:
"We would all be disturbed if any person who gains power attempts to overthrow the government, take over the administration, drag the country into adventures with uncertain endings, and lead to polarization in society. Such attempts not only prevent us from making sound plans for our future, but also negatively affect the trust in our country in the international community, the investment environment, and our plans for the future. The social, economic and cultural life of the society is also damaged. We have experienced these many times in the past."
Commemorating the July 15 martyrs with mercy, Hakkari University Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Gençcelep stated that such days should not be forgotten and drew attention to the importance of protecting the government and democracy.
Gençcelep said, "Such attacks and organizations can occur at any time. It is very important for us to be in unity and solidarity and to protect our country and administration. We wish God's mercy to all our martyred brothers, in the person of my graduate friend, the late Ramazan Konus. We wish our veterans a long and healthy life. May God grant strength and power to the families of our martyrs left behind." he said.

Dr. İlknur Bilgen "Evaluating July 15 from the Perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility", Dr. Faculty Member İbrahim Halil Polat "The Effects of the July 15 Coup Attempt on the Turkish Economy" and Dr. Faculty Member Serkan Erdoğan made his presentation titled "Looking at July 15 from a Historical Perspective".
The panel, which ended with the presentation of plaques and prayers for the martyrs, was attended by Provincial Police Chief Attila Ayata, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Cafer Öz, Hakkari University Secretary General Assoc. Dr. Saim Gündoğan, Provincial Director of National Education Nurettin Yılmaz, academic and administrative staff of the university and institution heads attended.
