The suspect of the murder committed 12 years ago in Istanbul was identified and taken into custody, thanks to the criminal investigations and DNA matching conducted on the evidence obtained from the scene.
Istanbul Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate teams re-examined the investigation file regarding the stabbing death of Gültekin Yıldırım (55) in Bayrampaşa on 24 June 2014, within the scope of the activities carried out to solve the unsolved murder cases.
In detailed examinations of the file, biological evidence obtained from the scene was re-evaluated using developing criminal techniques. As a result of DNA comparisons, it was determined that the samples at the scene belonged to the suspect M.Ö. (58).
Deepening the investigation, the teams also determined that the suspect was in the area where the murder was committed on the date of the incident.
Police teams launched an operation in line with the findings and captured M.Ö in an operation carried out in the rural area of Muğla's Datça district.
The suspect's proceedings at the police are continuing.
