The detained defendant, who was tried for beating and killing his ex-girlfriend in İzmir's Ödemiş district, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.
Defendant O.G attended the decision hearing at Ödemiş 2nd High Criminal Court from the prison where he was detained via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).
Victim Fatma Kara's father Yılmaz Kara, her brother Necip Kara and the lawyers of the parties were also present at the hearing.
O.G, who was promised by the presiding judge, stated that he did not want the incident to end in murder and said, "I lost myself in the face of Fatma Kara's very serious insults. I even called the ambulance for Fatma that day. I apologize to Kara's family for taking a life given by God. I can never accept murder. I am not a bad person. I regret the incident very much." he said.
After a break, the court sentenced the defendant O.G to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a woman".
Making a statement to the AA correspondent after the hearing, Fatma Kara's father, Yılmaz Kara, stated that the sentence they expected was given and said, "Maybe my daughter will not come back today, but with the sentence given, justice has been served." he said.
O.G. was murdered on March 11, 2025 in Türkmen District of Ödemiş district of İzmir. (35) had beaten his ex-girlfriend, Fatma Kara (27), with whom he had an argument, on the street. The woman died at the scene, and O.G. was referred to the courthouse. He was arrested.
Before his death, Kara filed a lawsuit against the defendant, alleging "threat" and "insult", and on June 18, 2025, O.G was sentenced to 9 months in prison without reduction.
According to the Ödemiş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendant in Kara's death, O.G. The indictment, which requested aggravated life imprisonment against him for the crime of "intentional murder against a woman", was accepted.
