3 Russian tourists lost in Kaçkar Mountains were rescued alive - Last Minute

A search and rescue operation was launched under the coordination of AFAD for 3 Russian tourists who were stranded in dense fog and difficult terrain conditions on Amlakit Plateau in Rize's Çamlıhemşin district. After a difficult walk that lasted approximately 10 hours, the teams reached the tourists and determined that their health condition was good and carried out safe evacuation activities.

Three Russian tourists, who lost their way and got stranded during a nature walk on the Amlakit Plateau in Rize's Çamlıhemşin district, were rescued alive as a result of a challenging operation that lasted for hours by the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) teams under the coordination of AFAD.

According to the information obtained, tourists who went hiking from Amlakit Plateau lost their direction in dense fog and difficult terrain conditions and requested help from 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the notice, JAK and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region without delay, under the coordination of AFAD.

On the steep slopes of the Kaçkar Mountains, the teams operated continuously throughout the night, despite the fog and rugged terrain that reduced visibility in places. While the spot where the tourists were located was detected in the morning, the teams reached 3 tourists around 14:00 after a difficult walk that lasted approximately 10 hours.

IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THEIR HEALTH CONDITION WAS GOOD

In the first health checks carried out at the scene, it was determined that the general health of the tourists was good. Then the safe evacuation process was started. Following the controlled evacuation of the teams, it was learned that the group was planned to be delivered to Amlakit Plateau around 22:00.

WARNING WAS MADE TO CITIZENS AND TOURISTS

The successfully completed operation once again demonstrated the coordination, experience and sacrifice of the search and rescue teams working in the difficult geography of the Kaçkar Mountains.

Authorities called on citizens and tourists who will be trekking in high-altitude regions to check the weather conditions in advance, inform their relatives or authorities of their route, set out with adequate equipment and, if possible, move with a professional guide.
