"15 July Democracy and National Unity Day" events were held in Ankara's Kahramankazan district on the 10th anniversary of the coup attempt of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) on 15 July 2016.
Kahramankazan District Governor Mustafa Yılmaz, Mayor Selim Çırpanoğlu, Chief Public Prosecutor Şeyda Ünal, Garrison Commander Colonel Kenan Güler, veterans, families of martyrs and many citizens attended the program at the National Garden.
The event, organized by Kahramankazan Municipality, started with a march from the municipality building to the National Garden, accompanied by the Janissary Band, after the evening prayer. Citizens carrying Turkish flags and torches gave a message of national unity and solidarity.
The commemoration program in the National Garden started with the concert of the Mehter band. Then, a moment of silence was observed and the National Anthem was sung. After the recitation of the Holy Quran, prayers were made for the martyrs.
While hymns and heroic folk songs were sung within the scope of the program, the sema show also attracted attention from the participants.
In his speech at the program, Kahramankazan 15 July Veterans and Martyrs' Families Association President Cafer Akın talked about the epic resistance of the people of Kahramankazan in front of Akıncı Base during the 15 July treacherous coup attempt of the FETO terrorist organization.
Emphasizing that July 15 should not be seen as an event that only takes place in history books, Akın said, "I am calling out here, especially to my young brothers. Do not think that July 15 is an event that you will only read about in history books. Learn how these lands are protected. Know the price of freedom. Understand why the flag is sacred, because this homeland is not our inheritance, but the trust of our martyrs and veterans." he said.
