Konya Governor İbrahim Akın and Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay published a message on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
In his message, Governor Akın stated that Türkiye faced a treacherous coup attempt on July 15, 2016, which wanted to shackle the independence and will of the nation.
Stating that he proudly remembers the national resistance that brought light to that dark night with its faith and wisdom, Akın said:
"That night, there was a power that the evil forces forgot and could never take into account: our nation's unshakable faith, love of homeland and unbending strength. Our noble nation, who flocked to the squares with the call of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, once again wrote the epic of democracy and heroism by shielding its chest against tanks, planes and bullets. Our Konya, the magnificent capital city of the Seljuks, the city of love and tolerance of Hazrat Mevlana; On that historical night, it displayed a noble stance befitting its spiritual spirit and glorious past. From the first moment when the sounds of the sala rose to the sky, our Konya became one heart with the whole of Turkey, and hundreds of thousands of our citizens who filled the squares sealed their loyalty to the homeland with unity, solidarity and brotherhood. That night, our Konya once again showed the whole world that it is an impenetrable castle where the fire of independence burns loudest and leaves the dirty desires of traitors in its tracks. "July 15 is a clear declaration to the whole world that these lands will forever remain the Turkish homeland and our glorious red flag will never come down."
In his message, Altay said that July 15 was an epic in which the treacherous coup attempt, which targeted the will of the nation, the survival of the state, democracy and independence, was eliminated with the unique courage of the beloved nation.
Stating that on the night of July 15, 2016, FETO attempted to realize its treacherous ambitions and infected the land and skies of the homeland with the shadow of treason, Altay said:
"Millions of people who rushed to the squares upon the call of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, shielded their bodies against tanks, their hearts against guns, and their unshakable faith against betrayal. Our beloved nation, which said 'Our call to prayer should not be silent, our flag should not be lowered, our homeland should not be divided', stood as one against betrayal. That night, it was once again seen that the will of our nation cannot be taken captive, our independence cannot be chained, our homeland cannot be extended. 15 "July is a great epic of resurrection in which our nation shattered the shackles that were intended to be placed on its will. It is the name of the will that defeated the darkness. Even though centuries pass, we will not forget July 15. Today, our duty is to protect the sacred legacy of our martyrs, to always remember the sacrifices of our veterans, and to carry our country to a stronger future by keeping our unity and solidarity above all kinds of discord."
