The trial of 4 undetained defendants regarding the chain traffic accident in the Sakarya section of the Northern Marmara Highway on December 28, 2023, in which 11 people died and 62 people were injured, continued.
At the hearing held at Sakarya 1st High Criminal Court, 2 defendants and 1 complainant's lawyer were present in the hall, but the lawyers of the other party who submitted an excuse petition did not attend the hearing.
The court decided to wait for the final reports requested in the previous hearings and to correct the deficiencies in the file and postponed the hearing.
On December 28, 2023, in the Sakarya section of the Northern Marmara Highway, 10 people died and 63 people were injured in the accident involving 7 vehicles, including 3 buses and 1 truck, including those carrying people returning from the funeral ceremony in Giresun. One of the injured people died in the hospital where he was treated on January 17, 2024.
The detained bus drivers were H.Ö, M.D, F.Ç, S.S, H.A, E.A. and truck driver O.K were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at Adapazarı Gendarmerie Command, E.A, H.A. and M.D. He was released after interrogations at the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Among the suspects, H.Ö, the driver of the bus with plate number 50 ACU 195 belonging to Metro Turizm, which made the Kayseri-Istanbul trip, and S.S., the driver of the bus with plate number 34 CYN 109, belonging to Kamil Koç, making the Ankara-Istanbul trip. and O.K, the driver of the truck with plate number 01 ZT 460, were arrested by the judgeship for "recklessly causing the death and injury of more than one person", and F.Ç. He was released on condition of judicial control.
At the first hearing of the case held on September 20, 2024, the court decided to release the three detained defendants on condition of judicial control.
Memduha Yılmaz Yıldız, the lawyer of Merve Yıldız, the wife of Hüseyin Kamil Yıldız, who died in the accident, requested at the first hearing that the DNAs on the steering wheel and sun visor of the light commercial vehicle be compared with the DNA of Hilmi Yıldız in the same vehicle, and in the Forensic Medicine report, it was stated that the blood samples found on the sun visor of the light commercial vehicle matched Hilmi Yıldız.
The case filed against the complainant Hilmi Yıldız, the uncle of Hüseyin Kamil Yıldız, who died in the accident, was combined with the court file.
A prison sentence of 2 to 15 years is requested for the defendants for "negligently causing the death and injury of more than one person".
