BEIRUT, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that he hopes the talks planned to be held in the Italian capital Rome on Tuesday and Wednesday will lead to the withdrawal of the Israeli army from southern Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Aoun, who made a statement on Monday, emphasized that they would not compromise on their sovereign rights and stated that in the recently signed framework agreement, Israel confirmed that "it has no territorial claims in Lebanon."
In his statement, Avn added that he would explain Lebanon's stance to US President Donald Trump during his visit to Washington on July 21, and ask him to put pressure on Israel to implement the framework agreement and meet Lebanon's demands.
The framework agreement signed in Washington at the end of June foresees Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
The Israel-Lebanon talks planned to be held in Rome will be the sixth round of negotiations between the two countries, following five ambassador-level meetings held in Washington since April.
On the other hand, according to the news in the Lebanese media, Israel continued its operations in the south of Lebanon on Monday. Israeli forces set fire to houses in Haddasa, bombarded Kefr Rumman and bombarded the area between Upper Nabatiyeh and Kefr Tebnit with artillery fire.
