According to reports in the national media, gunmen attacked Otukpo Nobi village in Benue.

Nigeria has long been subject to attacks by armed gangs in various parts of the country, as well as terrorist organizations Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African branch of ISIS.
Kidnappings for ransom are also common in the country, although the penalty is death. Gunmen and gang members generally target villages, schools and travelers in the north of the country and demand ransom.
