A commemoration program for July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day was held in Şırnak with the theme "Our will, our victory."
In the program organized by Şırnak Governorship, Şırnak University (ŞÜ) and Şırnak Municipality at the 15 July Congress and Culture Center, a moment of silence was observed, the National Anthem and the Holy Quran were read.
In his speech, Governor Birol Ekici said that 10 years ago on July 15, the treacherous coup attempt of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) was eliminated by the citizens' great stance under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Expressing that the nation must always be alert against coup attempts such as July 15, Ekici said:
"Most importantly, we need to stay away from the tools of the imperialist powers. Today, we have come a long way in our unity and solidarity in the last 10 years. They are working with all their strength to use our nation, imperialism does not remain idle, we have to be alert. We have to commemorate these days, we have to remember. We have to fight the remnants of the FETO coup attempt. May God not let us experience such a day again. May God perpetuate our unity and solidarity."
Mayor Mehmet Yarka also stated that July 15 is the name of the night when it was announced to the whole world that the will of this nation cannot be chained.
Stating that the nation bravely faced the tank with unwavering belief that night, Yarka said, "Millions of people who took to the streets not only prevented a coup attempt, but also showed the whole world that they would protect their flag, call to prayer, homeland and future. July 15 is engraved in memories as one of the strongest indicators of what our nation can achieve when united." he said.
SU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış stated that the July 15 coup attempt was an attempt targeting the independence of the country and said:
"Our country's administration and our people are a nation with deep experience in independence. The number of states that have declared full independence in history does not exceed 3 or 5. Of course, independence also has a price. To be independent, you must first be very strong economically and militarily. The basis of this is unity, you cannot be strong without achieving that unity. Hopefully, we will not experience similar events and we will keep our unity and solidarity stronger."
Following the speeches, AK Party Istanbul Deputy, composer, poet and pianist Yücel Arzen Hacıoğulları and the students sang various marches and folk songs.
Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Zafer Tombul, Provincial Police Chief Volkan Sazak, AK Party Provincial Chairman İbrahim Halil Erkan, representatives of non-governmental organizations and citizens attended the program.
