Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek and Mayor Adem Uzun published a message on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
In his message, Governor Şimşek reminded that 10 years have passed since the treacherous coup attempt that targeted the will of the nation, democracy, the independence of the state and the future of the country.
Emphasizing that the coup attempt was thwarted that night with the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the courage, foresight and determined stance of our beloved nation, Şimşek said, "Our nation has once again shown the whole world that it will not accept any power above the national will. Millions of our citizens who filled the squares all over our country have defended their country, flag and democracy without any hesitation and have demonstrated a historical resistance in unity and solidarity." he said.
Şimşek emphasized that this honorable stance displayed by the nation at the expense of their lives was not only a struggle that illuminated that night, but also a great legacy of democracy and patriotism left to future generations, and said:
"The 10 years that have passed have not made us forget the courage, sacrifice and spirit of solidarity demonstrated on the night of July 15, on the contrary, it has strengthened the place of this great struggle in our national memory. The epic of July 15, written with the sacrifices of our martyrs and the heroism of our veterans, has become one of the most meaningful examples of how our nation is united when it comes to the homeland, how it puts aside its differences and unites around its common values. The most important task that falls to us today is the unity and solidarity of July 15." "It is our common responsibility to always keep the spirit of togetherness alive, to resolutely protect our democracy and national will, to protect our social peace and brotherhood. At the same time, it is our common responsibility to convey the events of this historical night, the struggle of our nation and the sacrifices of our heroes to future generations in a correct and healthy way."
Sivas Mayor Adem Uzun stated in his message that on the night of July 15, a great epic was written in golden letters in history by defending democracy, independence and national will.
Pointing out that the treacherous coup attempt was eliminated thanks to the unique resistance of the heroic nation who took to the streets upon the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and defended their homeland at the expense of their lives, Uzun said, "On that dark night, millions of our citizens, men, women, young and old, became one heart and protected their flag, call to prayer, state and future. July 15 is a historical turning point where our nation showed the whole world what it can achieve in unity and solidarity."
Uzun emphasized that despite the 10 years that have passed, the courage, sacrifice and love of the country shown that night remain in memory and said:
"Our duty is to protect the trust of our martyrs, strengthen our national unity and solidarity, protect our democracy under all circumstances and pass this consciousness on to future generations. On the 10th anniversary of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, we commemorate all our martyrs, especially our July 15 martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for our country, our flag and our sacred values, with mercy, gratitude and prayers, and express our gratitude to our heroic veterans. "I hope that our unity, solidarity and brotherhood will be permanent, and I greet all my fellow citizens with love and respect."
