Subaru of America has recalled more than 541 thousand vehicles due to incorrect axle weight labels (GAWR) on its Crosstrek, Forester and Ascent SUV models. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned that incorrect labeling can lead to vehicle overload and increase the risk of a traffic incident.
No mechanical repairs are required as part of the recall; Subaru will send a corrective sticker to affected vehicle owners at no charge. If desired, dealers can also install the label free of charge. The recall covers the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, 2025-2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid, and 2019-2026 Ascent models. Notifications are scheduled to be sent at the end of August.
